I hope you don’t lose sight of your priorities when you get caught up in the hectic world of corporate life. It can feel like you’re trying to juggle dozens of balls in the air, while riding a bicycle at the same time. You fear that if even one ball drops, all the others will fall and scatter. And you feel like you have to keep going to maintain your balance, just like when you’re riding a bike.
Over time, I’ve come to realize that it’s not sustainable to continue living in this constant state of imbalance. To achieve a healthy work-life balance, regardless of your job or workplace expectations, it’s important to create a social program that works for you. By “program”, I mean that your social life shouldn’t be left to chance. As you plan the important activities, meetings related to your work, you should plan the social or private activities for yourself. This could be anything from a regular gym routine, a walk in the park, watching a live show, or even just grabbing coffee with friends. Whatever it is, plan it and do it. Make sure to prioritize self-care activities like exercise, hobbies, and spending quality time with loved ones (Answering your mails or Whats-app messages while sitting with your beloved ones is not what I mean by “spending quality time” with them!)
Even Superman needs a break from time to time, so don’t overdo it! Remember, taking care of yourself and taking time off is not only important for your own health and well-being, but also for the happiness and well-being of those around you.
